Coffee Tables

One very frequent request I get from my readers is how to get a spouse or partner to become aware of a certain desire. Say you want to attend a particular form of entertainment like concert or a movie. You don’t want to outright suggest it because you want a sign that your significant other is interested as well. He or she simply isn’t fosused on this paricular event. My answer is to utilize the incredible communication devices known as coffee tables. In my home everything and anything in print eventually ends up on the coffeee table that resides between the sofa and the TV. If something isn’t noticed there, it will never be noticed.

Embryonic Stem Cells Differentiation

Our family is ripe with budding scientific researchers. The latest “Madam Curie” is my niece who just graduated from med school. Her passion is research and loves the academic atmosphere. She started in a new position studying embryonic stem cells differentiation last month and already is involved with a colleague romantically. Now, she is seeking advice from my wife and myself as to how to pace herself with this relationship. I said we would invite him over for dinner and then put our two cents in. I’m pretty sure we’ll advise her to go slow. It’s a matter of how slow.

Isolation of B Cells

My niece has been totally consumed by her interest in stem cell research for the last four years. She has been putting in 50 to 60 hours a week at her job. She and her husband are discussing having a child. They asked me for advice on what to do about her work schedule. Her latest campaign is studying the isolation of B cells. Her passion is expressed all over her being. I could only advise them to communicate from the heart and the decision could only be theirs. There are often dilemmas when career and family conflict. It isn’t easy to ignore a passion as profound as hers.

B2B Telemarketing

It use to bother me that my friends were calling me Dear Abbey. The more I showed it bothered me, the more they said it. Giving advice isn’t always as rewarding as one might think. It often backfires. I once told a reader of my blog that B2B telemarketing was just another form of a boiler room, dialing indiscriminate people and annoying them to no end. After being reprimanded by someone in the industry, I was forced to reverse my position and admit that after looking into it, I should have investigated before I shot my mouth off. I guess therewill always be lessons to be learned.

Embryonic Stem Cells Differentiation

Years ago you could get nabbed for drug use and the authorities would have a tough time proving what if any illegal drug you have taken. Now, you are dead meat. If a law inforcement officer asks you “what are you on?” my advice is that you tell him or her exactly what you took and how much. Since the advent of embryonic stem cell differentiation, they have an exact science to determine extremely accurate information from a blood sample. Thus, the best advice anyone could give you is to be as honest as possible. It will go a long way to ease whatever punishment there is in store for you.

CFC Assay

Wouldn’t it be great if we could simply sit down and write out a plan for our lives that would simply tell us what to do and when to do it. In stem cell research, they have something called CFC assay that gives an order and function list to the cells involved. I guess it would probably get monotonous after a while if everything was laid out for us. However, during stressful times, it does sound a bit appealing. The fact is we never know what tomorrow will bring and it is more than likely a good thing.

Cell Line Development

I am going to take the opportunity to relate something about my personal relationship. For three years, I have been in a relationship with an up and coming biochemical genius. She has this innate ability to visualize solutions before most of her colleagues even know something needs a solution. She was working on something called cell line development and was so close to perfecting her quest that she lived at the lab. I was lucky to see her for an hour or two per week. I had to make a decision as whether or not to accept this life or not. Playing second fiddle didn’t suit me. I decided to accept the whole package and sacrifice for the greater good.

Methylcellulose Based Media

As usual, I have an enormous list of people that desperately need answers on how to handle the flaws in their relationships. It reminds me of when I was in a science lab in Canada and I heard some researchers discussing methylcellulose based media. I tried to jump in and ask a question. One of them handed me a sheet of paper and said “get in line.” It is very unsettling to know someone has an answer to your question and you have to wait an undeterminable amount of time for them to satisfy your question. I guess what goes around, comes around.
